Hi! I'm Sophia You, a freshman from Sunset High School. I started learning Web Design this year, but I think I am enjoying it so far. Outside of school, I like to:
Side note: I made this book myself for one of our eighth grade final projects!
I'm excited to learn more about HTML and CSS in Web Design. What interests me the most is learning how to style a website without the help of other platforms like Google Sites or Squarespace. I hope I can learn how to create a professional-looking homepage.
I've already learned a lot in the past few days. I can now create a very basic website with styles like background color, text color, and italics or bold words! Check out this website I created for practice.
It's definitely not perfect, but it's much better than anything I could have done before starting Web Design (obviously).
Aside from drawing, reading, and taste testing, I also volunteer on the circulation team at Cedar Mill Community Library!

Since my shift is in the morning, this usually means I'm pulling holds for patrons. However, circulation volunteers do all sorts of other tasks at the library, such as shelving books or checking books into the circulation system. All the staff and volunteers there are so kind and willing to help each other out; it's a very peaceful and relaxing way to start my morning. After my shift is over, I usually like to browse the library a little more as a patron. I would say volunteering at the library is probably one of the most enjoyable parts of my week. I highly recommend it to anyone else who is interested in volunteering somewhere.
If you want to find out more about volunteering opportunities at Cedar Mill Library, please go to their volgistics application page.
Cedar Mill Library also has web pages if you're interested in visiting them or donating.
As I mentioned before, I'm currently a freshman in high school taking all sorts of new classes. In our school, we only have four periods a day, and we alternate even periods on one day and odd on the others.

As I've mentioned before, I really enjoy drawing! For anyone interested in taking up a new hobby, I highly recommend doing art, especially if you are a visual learner. Below, I'm going to list some of my favorite art supplies. Some of them are a little expensive, but it is well worth it! Remember, the materials do not define the user - don't think you need good art supplies to be a good artist.
A kneaded eraser is crucial for sketching and outlining. It helps you erase lines for clearer inking.
Even though it seems inconvenient, a handheld pencil sharperner is crucial for the care of your pencils and colored pencils. The Prismacolor Premier pencils especially have soft cores that will break and jam into electronic pencil sharperners.
These pens are very useful for outlining, especially when you're using markers. A classic inking pen is the Sakura pigma micron.
These are the sites I used to learn the information on how to code my website.
CodeHS
W3 Schools This was a very useful resource. I used it to learn how to implement the div tag, the max-width CSS style, and the border-radius CSS style.
Google Fonts I used this to embed the font Quicksand.
